Authorities said the driver of a silver sedan died after driving at high speed, possibly reaching 100 miles an hour, before crashing into a parked car. The impact was so great that it set off a chain reaction.

“It was a really big noise, my wife and I were asleep and I thought it was hit and run or something, but I saw the guy,” said Juan Gonzalez, a neighbor.

Three of these cars belong to Gonzalez, who lives near the scene of the accident.

“The truck was mine, the white car and the yellow car were all mine,” he said on Saturday.

Investigators believe the incident began in Santa Ana, where the same driver was involved in a hit and run at the intersection about two miles from the site of the second crash.

“At this point we have a witness who identified the driver of a hit and run in Santa Ana,” said Sgt. Phung Phan of the Westminster Police Department.

Officers say the witness followed the driver a short distance only to see him crash into the other vehicles, a total of three of them.
